Every client is unique and our fee and billing arrangements are structured to reflect that reality. We review our fees with clients in detail to ensure the highest level of transparency.

We understand the fact that legal services are costly, affecting the ability of parties to retain a lawyer. We have controlled our overhead expenses and thus are able to provide legal services at affordable rates.

FIXED FEES

We offer a fixed fee for an initial consultation, independent legal advice, simple uncontested divorce, notarization of documents, drafting of simple wills and powers of attorney, and drafting of miscellaneous documents as stated in Our Services part of the website.

HOURLY RATE

Services for drafting domestic agreements and litigation are charged at an hourly rate plus disbursements and H.S.T.

LEGAL AID

We understand that not everyone can afford a lawyer. For that reason, we accept Legal Aid certificates for family, domestic violence, and child protection matters.

March 15, 2020: Because of COVID-19 pandemic and the Government of Ontario pronouncing and now extending the Declaration of Emergency and associated emergency measures, including the closure of non-essential workplaces, Chanda Law shall be working remotely until further notice.

We wish to inform our clients and the general public seeking legal services that we are able and continue to serve our clients during this unprecedented time.

April 8, 2020: Ontario has made a new regulation under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act dealing with signatures in Wills and Powers of Attorney which shall remain in effect for the duration of the declared emergency.

According to this new regulation, the requirement that the witnesses be present for the execution of Will and Powers of Attorney may be satisfied by means of "audio-visual communication technology" provided that at least one of the witnesses is a person licensed to practice law in Ontario as a barrister and solicitor or to provide legal services.

The term "audio-visual communication technology" is defined as "any electronic method of communication in which participants are able to see, hear and communicate with each other in real-time".

Passing this new regulation has clarified that the "physical presence" of the testator/grantor and the witnesses during the duration of declared emergency are not required.

At Chanda Law, we can help you to have your will and powers of attorney in place.
